  • Mission
  • The Pennsylvania Academy of Music is committed to ensuring that the largest and most diverse group of students possible can enjoy the benefits of its programs. All scholarships are awarded on the basis of auditions held annually before the fall semester begins. During a competitive audition, students must exhibit exceptional ability, motivation and fulfilled potential.

Scholarship students must be enrolled in the Academy's private instruction package. Incentive awards are available to younger students who have had prior study, are highly motivated and show excellent potential. Persons of all ages may apply for scholarships. However, priority is given to pre-college students who are fully enrolled in the educational programs of the Academy and who intend to pursue a career in music performance or education. Scholarships may be divided at the discretion of the jury and the Dean.

    Academy Scholarships

Academy Scholarships are awarded from the Pennsylvania Academy of Music Scholarship Fund. It is supported by annual gifts from the Travelers Fund provided by friends of the Academy who participate in Academy trips domestically and abroad, as well as other donors and the proceeds from periodic benefit concerts. These partial scholarships are awarded for studies in any of the instrumental or vocal fields offered at the Academy. Academy Scholarships are typically awarded at the advanced level and are intended to recognize both progress and potential, and to encourage students to continue the development of their abilities in an energetic and disciplined manner. Recipients of Academy Scholarships must take a one-hour lesson, be enrolled in the Academy's theory program and take part in the large ensemble that is appropriate to their performing discipline.

    Incentive Awards

Incentive Awards are intended to support the development of intermediate students who show both musical promise and a steady commitment to making progress in their studies. To be considered for an Incentive Award, a student must be a regular instrumental or vocal student who is also participating in the Academy's theory program at an appropriate level.

    Named Scholarships

Named Scholarships are awarded to exceptional students for two full semesters at the Academy. These scholarships bear the name of the honoree or the donor, whether an individual, a corporation or a foundation, through whose generosity each award has been established. Recipients, all advanced students, must be participating in the Academy's theory program at an appropriate level and be active members in the large ensemble appropriate to their performing discipline.
