Harpsichordist Hedi Salanki Plays in All-Baroque Concert

Acclaimed harpsichordist Hedi Salanki will be the featured performer in a program of all-Baroque music at Calvary United Church of Christ in Reading on Monday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will also include exceptional young artists participating in the Pennsylvania Academy of Music's two week summer festival, Music Naturally. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved by calling the Lancaster-based Academy at 717.399.9733.

A native of Hungary, Hedi Salanki has become one of today's foremost performers of a wide repertoire of solo and chamber music for harpsichord and fortepiano. She has appeared with the New Jersey Symphony, I Solisti New York, the New York Chamber Orchestra, the Syracuse Symphony, and numerous Baroque chamber ensembles. Salanki earned a Doctorate in Harpsichord Performance from the Juilliard School, as well as degrees and diplomas from the Liszt Academy, the Bartok Conservatory and Rutgers University. Her many recordings on the Pantheon, Priceless, Laserlight, and Prince Productions labels are featured frequently by major classical music stations in the USA and Europe. Her compact disc recordings include many significant works of Bach, including the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) (nominated for Ovation Magazine's Debut Artist of the Year Award), the Concerti, and the complete English Suites. She has also recorded Scarlatti Sonatas, G.P. Telemann Overtures, a French Baroque program, and the rags of Scott Joplin. Salanki is currently on the faculty of the University of West Florida.

The Pennsylvania Academy of Music's summer festival, Music Naturally, attracts top professional artists to the region to coach and perform, sometimes with the talented students who participate in the festival. In addition to Salanki, other artists performing at the festival this year include Arnold Steinhardt, first violinist for the Guarneri String Quartet; Ning Mu, violist; the Newstead Trio; the Miami String Quartet and many others. Concerts are scheduled around the region in Lancaster, Lititz, Harrisburg, Rohrerstown, Elizabethtown and Reading. The festival is underwritten in part by Benchmark Construction Company, Inc. of Brownstown.
