    Young Composers' Works in Concert

Students in the Pennsylvania Academy of Music's summer “Composers' Workshop” camp will present their compositions in a concert on Friday, August 18 at noon at the Academy's 313 West Liberty Street location. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Academy at 717.399.9733.

A violin sonata, string trio, and even a small ensemble piece in a “rock and roll” style (featuring piano and percussion) could all be part of the program, according to Dr. Simon Andrews, composition faculty member and head of the Academy's theoretical studies department.

“An important part of composing is hearing your pieces played and working with performers,” says Andrews of the concert opportunity.  The feedback, he points out, will be invaluable to the young composers.

The Composers' Workshop is a six-week summer program designed to unlock young musicians' creative impulses. It has featured both composition and listening assignments.
